It was a bit of a sad day at work today. My full time employee found out that her mother was dying last night so she drove to be with her today. This morning, our sales rep's father had surgery to remove a tumor from his stomach & things have gotten worse since the surgery. These things make the usual daily activities seem incredibly trivial.
Does prayer sway God's decision or is it merely a way for Him to help us cope with the outcomes?

I think both, Andy-- "Ask, and it shall be given you...." "Cast all your cares on Him for He cares for you." And remember, He knows the whole picture and what's best.
Somewhere in the midst of my prayer life I used to ask the same question, but somewhere along the way I stopped asking because both options sound fine with me. I doubt if there is anything mere about being able to cope with the bad news through the Good News.
I just finished an open-faced sandwich and thought of you. One. because I always will now that you've directed us to enjoy each one. Two, because it was of the vegetarian persuasion. It was Great Harvest Guiness and Cheese bread topped with broiled fresh tomatoes.
