Evil is Alive & Well

An actual conversation I had with a customer (one whom I've never met) the other day:

Customer: Can I get a credit application?

Me: Oh sure, that's always a good idea. It'll just take me a minute to print one off. pause... Busy day today?

Customer: Yeah, busy life. With that baboon we have in the White House I have to work twice as hard.

Me: Huh.

Customer: He wants to take from those who have money & give it to those who don't. The thing is those who don't have anything never will.

Me: Here you go. hands him application.

Now shame on me for not saying anything, part of me was selfish & realized it would be bad for business to disagree with him, part of me was shocked by what he said, completely unsolicited. This is the kind of hatred that causes people to fly planes into buildings & start wars. I'd like to think that everyone who protests at these town hall meetings, tea parties & "marches" on Washington are genuinely concerned about deficit spending & supposed government run health care but I rather doubt it.

Let's save the nazi claims for the actual nazi's, shall we? Funny, that trade freedom for security & you will have neither sign could've been used for an anti-war protest as well.

Like in any type of protest, I'm sure there is the good, the bad, and the ugly. I think the plain ignorant, like this customer of yours, resort to name-calling and generalizations.

Andrew, I just commented on a friend's Facebook about this same situation. It really irks me when some people hide behind the term "staunch Republican" when they really mean that they are racist, and can't stand having an African American in office. So sad.

I recently made a mistake of opening my mouth on a generalization made at a family gathering. Won't do that again!

A real life facebook conversation:

Fellow High School Grad: Hmm... It seems our President has spent 1.4 million dollars on legal fees to block his birth certificate from been seen by the American people, yet claims he has nothing to hide. ???

Dan Vander Wall: You got to be joking, give it up McCain lost

Fellow High School Grad: If he's got nothing to hide, why can't we see his birth certificate? P.S. McCain sucks too.

Dan Vander Wall: When Ann Coulter, Mike Huckabee, Hillary Clinton and Ron Paul all agree he was born in the U.S. As for the 1.4 million that does seem ridiculous.

Dan Vander Wall: Oh course Presidents do have personal freedoms

Fellow High School Grad: Freedoms that must comply with the US constitution.

Dan Vander Wall: And he does comply with the Constitution – according to John Roberts.

Fellow High School Grad: Not according to lifelong Democrat politician and attorney Philip J. Berg who filed the lawsuits.

Dan Vander Wall: I’ll stick with the Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court on this one. But the guy who said Bush was behind 9/11 may be more creditable who knows.

Fellow High School Grad : I'll have to agree to disagre. We'll see where America is in 3 years. Obama won because McCain was another Bush. If the election was held again today, he'd lose by a mile. He's trying to ruin everything he can before 2010 when almost every Democrat running for re-election will be out of a job.

Fellow High School Grad : I'm sure he is. Have another glass of Kool-Aid for me.

What are you to say to people like this? Trying to have a conversation with theses people would be like arguing with a dining room table.

That's funny dan, I just found that. I tried to post this upcoming blog on facebook but it said I had too many characters. I had a pretty funny argument with Mike O'hara today, too.
